The Massachusetts Airport Management Association (MAMA) was created in 1972. The founding members of MAMA included Charles "Chuck" Olson and Robert Trainor of Worcester Airport, William "Pinky" Prentice and Mel Thomas (Commission Chair) of Plymouth Airport, Izzie Esinor (New Bedford) and MA Aviation Hall of Fame, Arnie Stymest (previously of Norwood).
Today the membership includes airport managers from most of the 37 public use airports within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, architectural/engineering firms, regional members of the Federal Aviation Administration, and numerous vendors that provide services and supplies to the aviation community. MAMA actively promotes and protects the interests of the aviation community. This task has been accomplished by maintaining a working relationship with governmental agencies such as local airport authorities, MassDOT/ Aeronautics Division and the Federal Aviation Administration on matters that directly affect the aviation community.
MAMA was founded with a vision to help aviation grow and prosper in Massachusetts. These visionaries have left a lasting impression on the association and today, MAMA is a strong dedicated organization that is an aviation advocate in the state and federal arenas, protecting the regulatory and legislative interest of aviation and airport facilities. Currently, MAMA has a profoundly positive effect on the aviation-related decisions at the government level. We continue to foster our great working relationship with the leaders at the Department of Transportation, and the New England Region of the Federal Aviation Administration.
